Preisner's music promoted in Paris thenews.pl 20.03.2008 A concert promoting Zbigniew Preissner's CD Silence, Night and Dreams has been held at the Le Grand Rex cinema in Paris. In addition to the pieces from the CD, the programme of the concert included soundtracks for Krzysztof Kieślowski's films The Double Life of Veronique and the Three Colours trilogy. Poland's Elzbieta Towarnicka and the star of the Portuguese fado Teresa Salgueiro appeared as soloists. Premiered in Athens last year, Silence, Night and Dreams has also been performed in Poland and London's Barbican Hall. The CD recording features the Aukso Chamber Orchestra of Katowice, the Camerata Silesia Singers Ensemble and Teresa Salgueiro. Fifty three year-old Zbigniew Preisner is regarded as one of the world's most prominent composers of film music. He has written soundtracks for over 80 films by such directors as Krzysztof Kieslowski, Agnieszka Holland and Louis Malle. His CDs have sold over 2 million copies. After A Requiem for My Friend, a tribute to Kieslowski, Silence, Night and Dreams is Preisner's second non-film composition. The British musicologist Nicholas Reyland of Keele University is currently working on a book on Preisner's music for Kieslowski's Three Colours trilogy. It is to be published by Scarecrow Press |
